til my mom (66yo) thought it was perfectly normal for your brain to tingle or “jiggle” or “pulse” when you think about anything more than just a surface thought

she can feel where in the brain different types of thoughts originate because that region of her brain tingles -- math / memories / reasoning / layered jokes / pain

it was a complete surprise for her to learn that no most people can’t literally feel their brain thinking and that it’s a side effect of her epilepsy and the neurons firing incorrectly

i suppose i should label this psa since maybe there are others out there who think everybody’s brain tingles when they think hard

If you’ve never seen one of these before, it’s called a meat mincer. It’s a totally awesome tool that we just saw on The Great British Bake Off about a week ago and my mom nearly gave herself a seizure because she got so upset that this thing exists and she didn’t know about it. It cuts your chopping-up-meat-in-the-pot time down to like 30 seconds. It’s ridiculous.

Anyway, after she had a seizure this morning, she got it in her head that someone was going to make meat in a pot, and she INSISTED that whoever was making meat in a pot needed this tool.

I tried to tell her that nobody was making anything, but she got so upset that I finally said “okay I’ll give this to whoever is making meat, don’t worry!”

She calmed down immediately and fell asleep.

After my mom had her seizure today, she said she got a REALLY strong urge to sit on the edge of the bed and bark, but not like “bark bark.” She said the noise she wanted to make was “app app,” but do it like a dog barking.

When she told me about it, she asked if it would’ve scared me. I said no, and that I probably would’ve just tried talking to her and asking if she was able to stop and just wanted to do it or if she couldn’t help herself. I probably wouldn’t have gone straight to “yeah we need to go to the hospital” just because of a desire to bark. Hell, I wanna bark sometimes.

Seizures do weird things to your brain.
