Question 25. What professional and non-professional writers do you admire?

I’m a big fan of Stephen King. I love that he sucks you into the character’s headspace faster than anyone else I’ve ever read. And he has this casual way of writing, like he’s just sitting back, drinking his tea, and dragging you through all of his stories without even lifting a finger while you get scared, surprised, you’re bleeding, crying, and then your favorite character dies right before your eyes, all while he’s smirking at you. Yeah, I like Stephen King’s writing.

Michael Crichton is another favorite, not because his books are exciting (which they are), but because he did so much research included all this technical shit and background that you almost want to skip over, but it’s written in such a way that you end up reading it anyway. And I don’t know how he did it. And his stories are always interesting.

Dean Koontz is another favorite, but mostly because of Intensity. That book AND movie? Both awesome. Oh, and John C. McGinley played the hell outta Edgeler Foreman Vess.

As far as non-professional writers, I really like Xanthe. Pretty much anything she writes, I’m on board to read it. I don’t care what fandom or what plot. I’m there.

There’s also morganoconner (SPN), strangenessandcharm (SPN), Raven (X-Files), LitGal (multiple), Lazulikat (AtS/BtVS), Kassandra (X-Files), Lorelei (X-Files), Mort (X-Files), sevenfists (SPN), speranza (SGA), scyllaya (SPN), and so many, many more! There are plenty of writers in multiple fandoms that I’ll read anything they write.

And I have to mention Arete214 because she’s written me some kick-ass fic, and also majesticduxk because I get sucked into those fics so hard that I end up reading them straight through without a break, and deadmockingbirds because I’ve recently started reading those fics and got sucked in as well.

Question 23. What’s an underrated band you can’t get enough of?

I’m going to have to say Clutch. They’re not huge, but I really like them. Mudvayne is another one. They’re just so good that I can’t believe they’re not more popular.

There are plenty of other bands/singers I like that are off beat and I know why they’re not mainstream or more popular (like Casey Stratton - he’s awesome, but he refuses to sign with a record company because he likes to have all the rights over his music), but I just don’t get why Mudvayne isn’t more popular.

I also really like Keane, but they’re very popular in the UK. Some people in the United States are realizing who they are, but I don’t know about other parts of the world.

Question 26. What’s your favorite quote and why?

My favorite quote is from Dexter, and you may have seen it on my blogs and site. Yes, it’s a quote from a fictional character, but it fits me so well.

“They make it look so easy, connecting with another human being. It’s like no one told them it’s the hardest thing in the world.” -Dexter Morgan

I have a really hard time interacting with people, and when Dexter said this, after everything that had happened to him, and as he watched everyone around him easily and happily interacting with each other, well, it just hurt so much.

But it also made me realize that the interaction I do have with people is pretty impressive for someone like me. I’ve got friends, family who love me, and even though I struggle daily with interactions, I’m pulling this off well enough to have friends and family by my side.

I also really like, “Just because somebody doesn’t love you the way you want them to, it doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.” That was by an anonymous person, but it really fits how my family views life.

We’re all whacked in our own way, we all have issues, and yet we’re all there for each other, and even if it’s not the way we’d like, we know we all care for and love each other. And that’s the best possible outcome you could hope for because you’re never going to get someone who loves you exactly the way you want them to.

Question 21. What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

Rammstein. Hands down. They were awesome. It was intense and interactive and... (I don’t say this word often) spectacular!

Not only did they use the entire stage for their performance, they had a catwalk which extended over the audience on the floor, then walked over it (in full BDSM gear) and stood on a platform in the middle of the audience and continued to play. Toward the end Till Lindemann put on a set of wings that stretched across the entire stage, which then blew fire! Yes, fire! There were pyrotechnics throughout the whole show.

My next favorite concert has to be Bush. The band played for almost two hours straight, and it's hot where I live, the venue doesn't use air conditioning in the winter, and poor Gavin was sweating to death (think British man in 90 degrees with stage lights on him), but they played for nearly two hours. And he was friendly and bouncing all over the place, and even walked through the crowd singing.

Third favorite... Hmmm. I'll say Mudvayne. Not because it was a huge production, but because Chad Gray is awesome live! He's intense enough on his albums, but live? Hell yeah! I saw him in the same venue I saw Bush, and Chad complained about the heat, taking off his jacket before the first song was even over :D

Question 20. What's your opinion on illegal drugs?

I'm a really open-minded person. And my philosophy or moral compass in life is, as long as you're not hurting someone, do what you want to do.

I personally have never done any illegal drugs. Well, other than second-hand exposure when I've caught someone smoking weed IN our shop on a few occasions. But when it comes to other people, as long as they're not bothering anyone, I couldn't care less if they want to use drugs.

I'd like to try weed in edible form one of these days because of how awesome it's supposed to be for schizophrenics' hallucinations/overstimulated mind. When it comes to other drugs, I just don't care to get into them myself. Not because I think they're all bad, but because I want to actually live my life, and when I've been on mind-altering presription medications, I've felt like I wasn't really living my life, which is why I only take antipsychotics as needed (which is very rarely).

I think a lot of prescription medications are worse than some illegal drugs, and I've been on some of them. Would I choose to live my life with someone who did drugs? It depends on if it really was for recreational use or if they were addicted. Addicted, no. Recreational use, maybe. But like I tell the guys who work in my shop; I don't care if you do drugs. I really don't. As long as you don't do it IN MY building and as long as it doesn't affect your work.

I had a functional (meaning he wasn't too drugged to work) meth addict working for me for a while, and in the end, the reason I had to let him go had nothing to do with the meth.

On the other hand, if you've got young children or a sensitive job, my philosophy in life comes into play. Be aware of your surroundings, and if you're hurting someone, it's no longer okay in my book. I'm not gonna try to stop you, but this whole post is about MY opinion. I also don't think it's right to force my opinions on anyone.

Question 19. What are your all-time favorite songs?

My favorite song ever is Bush’s cover of Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones. And not just the album version, but the live version on Leno. I found it when I was pretty young and it’s been my favorite ever since.

Some of my other favorites include Sober by Tool, Home by Breaking Benjamin, Helden by Apocalyptica, Nothing to Gein by Mudvayne, Big Long Now by Nirvana, Run by Snow Patrol, Brutal Love by Greenday, Dead Souls by NIN, Here and Now by Seether, Given to Fly by Pearl Jam, Hurricane by Augustana, Sleeping Beauty by A Perfect Circle, Unafraid by Andrew Spice, Southern Smile by Cavo, Rio Bravo by cKy, Lightsaber Cocksucking Blues by mclusky, Sorry I by Casey Stratton, When It’s All Burning by Strata, Shallow by Porcupine Tree, Some Day by Shinedown, End of the World by Matt Alber, Prosthetics by Slipknot, Leave (Alt Version) by R.E.M., Since I Lost You by Phil Collins, Walking Away by Lifehouse, Alone I Break by Korn, Hamburg Song by Keane, You and I Both by Jason Mraz, Criminal by Disturbed, Callout by David Cook (Axium).

I could list a TON more, but that would be ridiculous. My favorite things to see live are death metal bands, because the crowd really gets into it. I prefer smaller venues, not the giant stadiums. And I don’t like to sit. Moshing is fun, and my whole family joins in.

If I had to pick my favorite genre, I’d say post grunge. But there isn’t much I don’t like. I’m not a huge fan of classical, country, or hip hop, but even those I’m fine with when we go out and see it live.

I really like music, if you hadn’t noticed :D

Question 18. What’s your writing process?

I write what comes out. That’s it. I don’t plan things, and even when I’ve tried to plan or outline, it doesn’t turn out the way I think it’s going to. The characters surprise me as I’m writing, and it boggles my mind that there are writers who can plan things out meticulously.

I listen to music when I write, but don’t have anything particular that I play. I prefer to write on my desktop computer or my laptop, but I did handwrite stories when I was a kid.

I write more easily when I’m depressed, but I never stop writing. I started a medication for depression when I was about 14 that took away my ability to write. Until then I was planning on being making a career out of writing, so that was life-changing and threw me into an even deeper depression for a while. But then a few years later I got off the medication and was able to write again. By then, my career was off in another direction, so now I just enjoy writing fanfic.

I tend to write from beginning to end, though worlds explode in my head and I feel as if I can’t get it into the document fast enough. Sometimes I’ll skip around and write chunks of fics that end up coming together, but that’s a little harder for me and doesn’t happen that often.

Because of what I did for a living, I can type extremely fast. Which means if my brain is up for throwing ideas out at me, I can write a fic REALLY fast, which I’ll write more about in a few days.

I get stuck sometimes, but I try not to force things and just let it happen, then start writing again when I can.
