Read this fun little article that talks about how game devs realized people didn't trust smooth loading bars or games that quickly and smoothly cut from one scene to the next, so they PURPOSELY make ALL gamers wait for no reason.

So because there's insecure little gamer boys who can't understand that smooth/quick loading means good device + good game programming, I have to sit through extra loading screens?!

(the link summary doesn't include the info about all the unnecessary loading screens in games and it looks like all they're talking about is loading bars but read the article for more)

I always wondered why loading screens didn't improve when I got newer and better PCs and devices 😡

Why isn't there an option or checkbox that says "I'm mature enough to handle this" so I can walk from one room to the next on a game and not wait?!

GIVE ME THE OPTION DEVS!!

My cousin Dominic and his wife Lilly are gamers.

They have no kids, don’t travel, and have no hobbies, so they spend their money on the house they bought and games. They both work from home for a big company and are workaholics in between gaming.

Yesterday he texted me and asked what PC setup I would buy if money wasn’t an issue. Said he and Lilly wanted to move up from their laptop gaming.

So I sent him some links to high end, medium, and low end PC systems, external SSDs that would be great for storing and running games so he didn’t fill up his PC hard drive, and some cool mouse and keyboard recs.

A few hours later he wrote back to thank me and said “I bought two of everything and we’re so excited!”

First of all, this is totally adorable, and I’m so happy he found Lilly.

Second, dude spent a little under $10k on gaming PCs and peripherals like it was nothing. They’d been saving up

I texted back DUDE I was just sending you the expensive cooler stuff so you knew what kind of a range the equipment had and didn’t expect you to buy the one I was drooling over!

He very graciously offered to let me come over and use their systems 😂

Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo Switch is SO GOOD!!

It's about as open world as you can get with a Mario game, and each world is different and unique.

There's more moves and interesting things in it than I've ever seen in a Mario game too. The camera is 360 plus up and down tilting, making it easy to see whatever you need to see.

The graphics are beautiful, and I love the feature that allows you to become a lot of different things. Toss your hat at something and either it flies off leaving coins behind, busts into a bunch of pieces and gives coins, you kill it, or you actually become the thing!

Which means...

🦖 YOU GET TO BE A DINOSAUR!! 🦖

The outfit changes add to the uniqueness of the surroundings, and the stark contrast between worlds kinda throws you for a minute in a good way.

My only complaint is I'm about to beat it today after only 1-1/2 weeks of casual play. I wish it was longer and harder, but I usually get through games quickly, so I can't call it a big complaint.

My dream game would be about 50 times longer and have various difficulty levels, but I really can't fault this game for that.

And did I mention 🦖 YOU GET TO BE A DINOSAUR!! 🦖

I'm going to do a second play-through to catch whatever I missed the first time around and also to sit back and enjoy the graphics more.

This game plays as something that I wouldn't mind going back to frequently. And that's unusual for me. Usually once I've beaten something, I'm done unless there are mods.

If I had to choose between Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World/Bowser's Fury I would pick Odyssey hands down!

Not that Mario 3D is bad, but the entire atmosphere of Odyssey is so unusual and it's this wonderful mashup of an open world RPG and a Mario game!

I’ve been working on this stupid system HARD since May 2020. Like so hard that I’ve pretty much stopped doing anything else I actually enjoy in life.

I needed and wanted to get it done so everything could sync and it would be easier for the customers as well as Charlie and Marissa. And I wanted to be able to access all of it from home.

In the last few months I’ve been working all day and into the night every day and haven’t done my weekend brain reset thing for like 3 weeks now.

I’m overworked, tired, and so fucking excited that I finished it that my body is in this weird mode where like I wanna do stuff but I’m so exhausted I sit there and twitch.

So I was whining at Ryan the other day because he always tells me how awesome gaming is when you’re high, but whenever Saturday night rolls around and I’m high, all I can do is watch TV, listen to music, or kinda scroll through Tumblr. I CAN’T GAME. Not that I suck at it, but I just can’t handle it.

I asked him why, and he said well maybe you’re getting too high, and I’m like TOO HIGH?! I see all these gamers online saying how high they get and how awesome gaming is. How can I be getting higher than them?!

So I told him how much I take and what I’m feeling. He said “yup you’re getting too high.” I was like “but I’m only taking TWO gummies! that’s 40 mg max of the milder strains.”

Apparently my tolerance is low, especially since I only do it once a week. He can take two gummies AND smoke a bowl and still can game, but if he takes more gummies or does the paste, he can’t game.

So last weekend I tried taking part of one gummy, gaming, and then taking the rest of the gummies before bed.

I WAS ABLE TO GAME AND IT WAS GLORIOUS ON MY BIG SCREEN NO WONDER GAMERS SAY YOU GOTTA TRY GAMING HIGH

So today I bought myself a new game to try out on Saturday night. If I can figure out how to stream to Twitch from my computer instead of my tablet I’ll do it Saturday night, but no promises. Even when I’m a little high, I still have trouble figuring things out.

I bought No Man’s Sky. It’s not a super popular game, but Ryan and I have very similar taste in games, and it’s one of his favorites when he’s high. It’s open world, which we both love.

It’s all downloaded and ready to go for Saturday night :)

It was pathetic and ridiculous, but if you’d been watching my channel, you would’ve seen my beak for about 30 seconds peering at the tablet’s camera with a confused look on my face like WHY IS IT RECORDING MY FACE AND NOT THE GAMEPLAY?!

Twitch told me there was one other person watching besides me, and I wish people watching would stream back because it would’ve been totally awesome to see someone wondering what the fuck I was doing and why I looked completely wasted.

Anyway, it was kinda fun doing this last Saturday, and I think I might try it again next Saturday.

I don’t know what I’ll play or if I’ll just draw stupid stuff or whatever, but I have Twitch, my username is Maya1aen (with the number one because somebody already used my damn name and they don’t even use their channel so they should totally give me the username), and if I can figure out how to, I’m gonna see if I can stream through Discord.

Is this something I should create a separate server for on Discord? I’m so new to it I’m not really sure what people do. I know it’s not like Tumblr or Dreamwidth where you have your own list of posts, right?

I’m having a blast playing this stupid game called Hempire.

You grow different strains of weed, fill the orders of people around the small town, open a dispensary, finish projects (including cleaning up the town), and even make new strains and improve the plants you’re growing.

Ignore the stereotypes and some other over-the-top stuff and enjoy this stupid game :D
