Orgain was created by a cancer survivor because he couldn't find clean protein shakes on the market.
He created his own company with all clean and organic ingredients, natural sugars, and using a wide variety of vegetables and fruits.
But sometime around mid 2022, he sold a majority of the company stake to Nestle, of all companies.
Here's one of the articles about it: Nestlé to buy majority stake in protein powder maker OrgainThe deal accelerates the CPG giant's push to grow its health and wellness business while selling parts of its slower-growing food and beverages.
I noticed a change in taste right away, but since the owner had improved the formula two other times over the years, I figured he did it again.
Nope.
The goal of Nestle is to make as much money as possible while not giving a shit about the human cost or what they do to the environment. I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure they were behind the changes to Orgain powder.
Now there are several unhealthy sugar substitutes in it, almost none of the vegetables they used to have, and they no longer list the ingredients as clean sourced.
I was thrilled to find Orgain years ago because multiple family members have cancer, but for well over a year I was feeding them this new formula because I didn't realize what happened to the company.
If you use this product, check the ingredients again just to make sure you're still comfortable with what's in it.
Part of the agreement in 2022 included the option to acquire the rest of the company in 2024, so if you use Orgain, keep an eye on the ingredient list since it will most likely change again this year once Nestle fully owns the company.

Jul. 23rd, 2022 03:07 pmThey were totally on board and acted like they could outdo me in the eating-the-same-meal game.
They didn’t realize my schizophrenic powers!
Buuut I didn’t realize how badly they were overestimating themselves.
Their limit is THREE MEALS the same.
THREE!!!
Not even in a row! I’m talking 3 dinners the same with other stuff in between!
I’ve had autistic and schiz friends/family members who gladly ate meals over and over again like me, but I assumed regular people could do more than 3 meals, especially when they had other things in between for breakfast or snacks.
If my parents thought they were unusual compared to their friends, then does the average person eat one meal and refuses to repeat it?
It’s food! If it’s something you really like, why wouldn’t you want to eat it again very soon?! And comfort food? How can you not?!
Anyway I discovered my limit when I lived alone, and it was my body giving up before my mind after 9 days of cold noodle/chicken/broccoli casserole with nothing else.
It wasn’t until I puked the second time and was dizzy walking around the house that I figured out my body wanted at least a little variety in food 😂
50th anniversary
Sep. 2nd, 2021 02:11 pmWe don’t usually make a big deal of my parents’ anniversary.
They don’t have the best relationship, and it’s more like the three of us are all roommates instead of a married couple and their adult daughter living together, but today is their 50th, and even if the relationship itself is dead, 50 years is still an accomplishment.
We usually go out to eat early in the day on their anniversary, and that’s as far as we go for celebrating, but due to Covid, we haven’t gone anywhere since March 2020. Last anniversary we were all worn out from some family crap that was happening.
With 50 being such a big milestone, I told my parents I’d make them whatever they wanted.
Dad requested sausages, mom requested pork shoulder. They’re both mostly carnivores 🥩
Got the pork shoulder in the slow-cooker and I’ll pan fry the sausages tonight. I’m going to make mashed potatoes from scratch too, and I’ve got a head of cabbage ready to bake in the oven. The mashed potatoes and cabbage are things I wanted, but my parents like them too.
I’ve made box cake a few times since Covid, but we haven’t really liked them because there’s so much sugar and we really don’t eat much sugar or salt anymore. Everything is home cooked.
I found a cake mix from Sprouts that is supposed to be more natural, less sugar, and I’m making cream cheese frosting to go on it. Hopefully it won’t be so overwhelmingly sugary and we can enjoy it.
But already mom’s pissed about the guy who is supposed to be fixing our sprinkler system and lighting.
And my dad went and started using lotion on his ringworm three days ago because it was “sooooo dry and itchy” (if you didn’t know, ringworm-infected skin has to dry out, flake, and come off - if you keep it moist, you just let the fungus grow) so the ringworm got worse again just when it was starting to clear up 😡
My mom and I were going to invite him out to the kitchen to eat with us at the table tonight as part of the anniversary thing, but now we’re going to have to be more careful in case he’s grown some new ringworm spot.
A new spot is contagious until it’s been treated for a few days.
Oh and Charlie and Marissa informed me they want to close the shop for 4 days so they can go to a concert (yes, in the middle of a pandemic) in Texas, so not only am I worried they’re going to get sick, but I’m also upset my shop will be closed for FOUR DAYS.
That’s 4 days going into a weekend, so actually the shop will be closed a total of 6 days once you throw in Sunday/Monday (our regular closed days) before it’s open again.
I’m trying to chill and just go with it. I’m excited about the mashed potatoes and cake. My mom and I don’t eat white potatoes very often because it’s white carbs and that’s bad for her ca/ncer, so it’s even more of a treat 🎉
brunch potato casserole mod
Aug. 28th, 2021 08:17 amYesterday was my birthday, and since we’re still in quarantine and careful about what we bring into the house, and my parents aren’t cooking or grilling these days, I had to make my own birthday dinner. I saw the recipe for Brunch Potato Casserole on AllRecipesDOTcom and modified it.
IT WAS AWESOME I’m listing the modified version below, but you can find the original on AllRecipes
Prep 30 min / Cook 1 hour
Ingredients
- 8 small-to-medium baking potatoes
- 1/2 pound Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 pound Mozzarella
- grated cheddar cheese to sprinkle on top
- grated or powdered Parmesan to sprinkle on top
- 2 cups mayonnaise
- 1 sweet onion finely chopped
- 10 ounces sliced and cubed Canadian bacon
- 12oz package of frozen peas
Directions
- preheat oven to 400F/204C
- peal potatoes (leave them on if you like) and cut into 1 inch cubes
- boil potatoes until they’re beginning to be soft (took me about 10 minutes) - use a large pot so you can add other ingredients later
- drain and stir in Gruyere, Mozzarella, onion, Canadian bacon, frozen peas - mix until cheese is melting but still stringy
- don’t stir so much that you end up with mashed potatoes - you’re folding more than you are mixing
- add 2 cups of mayo and mix
- grease a large baking dish and dump the potato mixture into the dish
- sprinkle Cheddar and Parmesan over the top
- Bake for 1 hour
For the last 15 minutes of the bake, I turned the heat up to 425 to get a crispy top.
I made oven-baked cabbage at the same time, but both my mom and I ended up mixing the cabbage into the casserole on our plates, and it was so good!
The only things we put on cabbage are butter and pink salt.
spend time where it counts
Jun. 21st, 2021 09:13 amThe problem is I’m terrible at figuring out who is actually going to appreciate something and use it and what’s best to focus my efforts on.
I’m not the type of person who half-asses things. If you ask me to do something, it’s getting overdone.
Which is great for things that need a lot of research like the business I’m in, which would’ve failed miserably if I wasn’t the way I am. And it’s great for people like my mom who appreciate and use the things I find. But for a lot of things it just works out to be for nothing.
Like with my dad.
Every time my mom has been diagnosed with something or has a problem, I learn as much as I can about it. Between the two of us, we came up with a food list of dos and don’ts and changed our entire way of eating for her cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
The result was that her cancer doc and her dermatologist were both blown away by how fast she recovers from every spot of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma she develops.
It never shows up in her lab work, unlike almost every other patient with the disease.
The spots clear up so quick that both of her docs go on and on with “keep up the good work!” and “maybe you should do a seminar to help others” and they give her the lowest and second lowest doses of cream that usually aren’t strong enough to treat this disease well, but they work for her because she just needs a little help.
(lowest dose cream for mild spots and second lowest if the other cream doesn’t work fast enough)
Anyway, I’ve been working harder at putting my efforts where they’re needed and appreciated.
So yesterday when my mom came out of my dad’s room and said “Paul (dad’s best friend) told him that he did some research and found that low B12 can make ringworm worse” I nodded, said something about how yeah that might have a connection since my dad’s side of the family has B12 deficiency -- I’ve got it too and it’s part of what I had to work with for our diet.
When I followed that up with, “But I’m not going to put my time and energy into researching that when he’s not going to follow through,” she paused for a moment, seemed a little surprised, but then nodded and smiled.
The fact that we found all those nearly untouched vitamins in his room a few days ago definitely helped me realize quicker that I shouldn’t bother with the B12 thing, but I’m also hoping I’m doing better with the whole spending time where it counts thing 🥳
excited about a thing
Jun. 21st, 2021 08:54 amAlmost 2-1/2 years of that time I’ve also been making one for my dad. But he’s such an ass that he complains about everything to the point where I had to start making his first and separate from ours with the ingredients he’d allow.
- “those probiotics hurt my stomach!”
- “the white powder gave me the runs!” -- a second protein powder
- “the blueberries have little seeds in them that make me choke!“ -- it’s powdered blueberries
- “the MCT oil made me queasy!”
- “the coffee is what gave me atrial-fibrillation” -- it was 1oz so about 10 mg vs the 40mg he regularly consumed with each Pepsi he drank
- “DID YOU PUT CHALK IN MY DRINK?!” -- powdered peanut butter
And if you’ve been following me, you’ll realize ALL the other stuff he was doing including messing with his own meds is what caused atrial-fibrillation flare-ups.
This protein drink wasn’t something I went into lightly. I’ve done tons of research and tweaked it over the years to make it fit my mom’s cancer and all the things we need because we don’t eat some things other people eat.
Anyway I finally realized how many Boost dad was drinking a day -- between 2-5 -- so I was like okay you gotta choose between my drink, Boost only twice a day, or all the vitamins I spent a TON of time researching for you (that once we took out of his room we realized he had only taken a couple times and stopped).
He chose Boost. Expensive, but whatever. I don’t have to buy vitamins for him and I DON’T HAVE TO MAKE HIS STUPID DRINK.
It used to take me 25 minutes to make our morning drink. Making it for just my mom and I, it only takes me 10 minutes including clean-up time.
It’s quick. It’s easy. I swear it tastes better.
It might taste better just because it’s less stressful, but also I’d have to put things into about five different glasses to get all of our stuff in the right proportions without him getting any of the stuff that he said was evil.
I just put all the ingredients into the blender together now. No extra glasses.
You know, like a normal person would do who doesn’t have my father as a father.
Oh and also because my dad is still battling ringworm, he’s been quaran/tined to his room, so my mom and I get to have breakfast in peace. That probably makes it taste better too 🥰
veggies!!!
May. 1st, 2021 01:33 pmGimme some spinach and/or Romaine with mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, kidney and/or black beans, etc. and a little bit of home-made honey mustard dressing and I’m a happy woman!
But since the numerous recalls of fresh veggies due to things like salmonella and then Covid-19 hitting, it’s made us rethink bringing something home from the supermarket and just eating it without cooking. So we haven’t had a fresh uncooked vegetable in over a year.
WE MISS THEM SOOOOO MUCH!!!
If you didn’t know, there’s a huge problem around my state because of the way field workers are treated. Their already-abysmal pay is docked if they dare to use the port-a-potty and even if they do use it, they’re not given toilet paper or soap, so the workers don’t bother stopping to use the port-a-potty. They just go on the field.
Our state has one of the biggest suppliers of fresh veggies in the country, and we supply 2/3 of the US. If you wanna know more, feel free to ask. It’s sick what they’re doing to workers, and nobody is doing anything about it.
Nothing against the workers. I blame it all on the greedy fucks who care more about profits than the health of the workers or the people who spend money on fresh veggies.
Anyway, after all the recalls (seriously we hear about at least one major recall a month around here) we were questioning it even before Covid hit.
We want fresh veggies again, so my mom has been looking into growing them indoors. We live in the desert so growing veggies outside is way too hard for the small yield you can get, and 4 months out of the year it’s pretty much impossible to keep veggies alive due to heat. I’ve tried it before.
My mom thinks she’s found the perfect way to set things up, so we’re going to use the pantry to do this.
We’re so excited and we haven’t even started yet.
One of these days we’re GOING to have fresh veggies again! I can’t wait to just bite into a veggie without cooking it!! 😍
