14. Can you read facial expressions?
I suck at it. When it comes to everyday interactions and being able to tell a person's mood? I suck. I'm not empathetic, sympathetic, or compassionate. Like... not at all. In fact, it tends to make interpersonal relationships a little (okay, a lot) difficult.
What I'm really good at is judging the character of a person. I'm able to tell if they're lying, what kind of person they are, and I'm able to get things out of people they wouldn't normally tell, whether I've just met them or I've known them for years, and I can do it in a very short period of time.
When it comes to business, it's an awesome asset and I've been able to keep us from making really big mistakes when it comes to people who weren't on the up-and-up.
I'm also able to manipulate a conversation, especially if I'm one-on-one. I keep it moving quickly, bounce around a bit, and people start slipping up, and most of the time they don't even realize it until I tell them they're not a good fit or we have to let you go, and even then I think maybe they're not sure why I'm making the decisions I make.
People who think they're clever are my favorite, because you get them talking fast enough, get them excited about something, and they'll tell you anything. They're the easiest to get.
My family knows all this about me, so whenever someone new comes into the shop or our lives, they watch me interacting with the person, and after the new person has walked away, they grill me for details, ask for my take on the person. When it comes to the business, they keep or dump the person totally based on my observations because of how well it's worked out.
The rest of my family is good with the day-to-day interpersonal relationships, the part I'm not good at. I'm also the least emotional person in the family. Everyone else depends on me to tell it like it is and make tough decisions. I don't lead with my heart. We all balance each other out. I'm not the easiest to get along with, but anybody who is tired of the bullshit people normally spew at them finds me very refreshing even if some of the truth hurts.
