Mom had a REALLY hard seizure 3 days ago. Like so hard she couldn’t talk for a few hours. Well she could talk, but I couldn’t understand for the first 30 minutes and after that it was still difficult for the rest of the day.
I told my dad he was on his own because mom was going to be recovering.
Tonight he asked me for a tube of ketaconazole -- the ringworm cream that I just brought home five days ago that’s supposed to last through the end of the month.
The man used an ENTIRE TUBE in THREE DAYS.
You might be saying well maybe he didn’t know how much to use.
My mom has been applying the cream to him twice a day for three weeks now. He saw her doing it twice a day. Every day. And we’ve been on him from the beginning of this about how he uses things up too quickly, like the tube of triple antibiotic ointment he used up in ONE DAY that was supposed to last three weeks.
And he STILL used up the tube of ketaconazole.
We already got prescriptions under my name and Aunt Carol’s name because he’s got so many spots of ringworm that one tube a month wasn’t gonna cut it, but we don’t have anybody else we can get prescriptions under now.
The out of pocket price of the stuff is $140 or $170, I can’t remember, but that size tube will only last him 2 weeks.
When my mom found out she just went to bed. Couldn’t handle it.
I’m so tired of this ridiculous man.
He’s bipolar, unmedicated because he refuses meds, and he’s TERRIBLE at being sick. I mean I know nobody likes being sick, but my mom and I have been sick a lot in our lives and it’s like yeah you get sick you just deal with it. It sucks but oh well.
My dad is over the top ridiculous and panicky, and even more so with this because he’s being confined to his bedroom so he doesn’t give us ringworm.
But he keeps pulling stupid shit like putting other creams on the ringworm that aren’t meant for ringworm and using entire tubes of various creams in a day or 3.
It’s just never ending. He’s intense and exhausting, and he doesn’t quit. And if he has an anxiety attack, he’ll wake us up in the middle of the night and make us sit up with him for hours.
He’s constantly complaining, reading stupid shit from quack doctors on the internet and deciding he and the quacks know better than his actual doctors.
I found out recently that the thing he does with baking soda -- downing an entire heaping tablespoon full of it for his “hearburn” -- actually does cardiac damage, can CAUSE atrial fibrillation (which he does get and is one of the things that freaks him out and in turn drives us up the wall), and can cause a lot of other issues.
I don’t know what to do with him. If we don’t go in there twice a day and put the cream on, the ringworm gets worse and he can give it to us and the dog.
But taking care of him 24/7 is wearing us both down, and he doesn’t seem to be getting better, but at the same time he’s not getting a lot worse -- like this isn’t end-of-life stuff and we’ll get relief soon.
He’s 77, almost 78. Other members in his family who didn’t use dr/ugs and al/cohol and didn’t smoke lived into their late 90s.
