Day 9: 100 Days Challenge

9. What fic are you most proud of writing?

I'm most proud of a fic I've not even posted yet. I started it a few days after Nightshifter 2x12. It's a twist on the ending where the guys get caught after they leave the bank. It's a long fic at almost 100,000 words.

I'm nervous to post it because I'm not even sure it's that interesting. But I'm most proud of that one because I think I really got Dean's character down, at least for the situation, and I started writing it way back when I wasn't planning on EVER sharing my writing with anyone, including my family, so I wrote it for myself, not worried about making anyone else happy, yet I think it can hold its own.

It took me quite a while to write, then I let it sit on my hard drive ever since. I've started editing it in the last couple months, and I'd like to post it, but again I'm nervous about it. Not only because it's gen (so anyone reading it would have nothing to distract them from the storyline, which means if it sucks, it really sucks), but also because it deals with mental issues, some of which I've personally experienced.

So it's more than just putting my work out there for everyone to see, it's letting them peek into some of my experiences too. I'm trying to psych myself up to post it, and I'm pretty sure I will. I've even got the cover art made for it. I think I'll get there :)

I think it is always hard sharing your work, and something that is very personal? even more so.

I have to say I am impressed at writing a fic of that length, and if you feel like you've got Dean's voice, well, you probably do. :-)

There are lots of lovers of gen fic out there too. Some of my faves are gen, and there is a whole bunch I know, who JUST read gen, so it would definitely have an audience, if you wanted to share it.

Hehe, yeah. I think with the prompt fills I keep deluding myself with the idea that it's not really mine because someone asked for it, which makes it easier for me to share it.

I'm getting more and more excited to post it actually. The editing/proofreading is going to take a while with 100k words, but I'm working toward it.

Thanks for the encouragement, especially about it being gen. I like plenty of genfic myself, and even though I know there are plenty of people out there who like it, it's daunting to think people won't have the porn to distract them :D
