I am admittedly still having difficulty with the respect issue. I was thinking about Dean's talk with Kevin and how Dean characterized his own behavior as assholish because I don't see it that way. He is reacting like an alpha just as the others are, but it is seen as wrong. I think that it comes from being a female who is told throughout her life that while it's okay for men to treat her a certain way, it isn't okay for her treat them that way in return. Men can act that way because that's their nature. Women can't. So I feel like Dean is being forced into an artificial role based on a societal hierarchy that is in fact not part of his nature. Everyone above him gets to be an asshole and that's okay. Whatever he is doing isn't as important as one or more of them getting off. That demeans his skills. The fact that he was chosen because he was the most fuckable? I think he was chosen because he's already the more submissive. He didn't fight to win. He didn't even try to fight Benny. He was surprised that Sam challenged him, but was unwilling to fight Sam. He fought Cas and tried to fight Nick? Maybe, but after the way he backed down with Kevin, I wonder.
Right now, I'm still not buying Meg's "precious beloved" idea. People tell themselves what they need to believe to survive. So far, I'm still buying Dean's initial reaction that he's the house hole. Just because they respect his judgement in making the big decisions, doesn't mean they respect his person. Maybe Gabe and even Cas -- I'm reserving judgment there. I'm afraid I'll always have difficulty trusting Cas.
