"Achievement Unlocked: What would you consider to be your best achievement to date? Why are you particularly proud of it?"
I've worked from the time I was 8 years old (cleaning houses and mowing lawns, then a career that I started at age 12 and finally quit at 32), and the fact that I pull my own weight has always been something I've been proud of, but in the last two years I'm even prouder to say I own my own business.
Two years ago, the idea was to open a tattoo shop with a tattoo artist who would handle the artists while my family and I would sell supplies. That same guy dumped us two months after the place opened, leaving us with tons of debt and little knowledge of how to handle it all.
Within just a few months I threw myself into it. I learn quickly, and when I put my mind to something, I commit.
It's been a crazy 19 months since we opened, but we're doing well. We were "in the black" in under six months and we're growing so fast as a shop we're busting at the seams and people are asking when we're going to open another shop across town! We've already put the two major supply shops in the city out of business!
So yeah, I can say I'm proudest of the way I can take a situation that looked hopeless and run with it, helping out my family and creating a pleasant experience for anybody who comes in.
