I’m trying to rearrange our family cell plan and devices.
We have so many people on the plan that we have a main account and a side account under the same name. It’s a pain, but now that they have plans that allow for more people, I wanted to get switched over.

Scary part is we were grandfathered in to Verizon with a really good deal 20 years ago that they let us keep, so it’s freaking me out to stop that plan, but the new plan sounds SO MUCH better. I might be screwing my whole family over by changing.
Friday I spent 8 hours on the phone with Verizon getting things changed and getting everybody new devices because OH if you’ve got Verizon right now you might wanna think about upgrading!
They lost TONS of customers in the first quarter of the year because Tmobile merged with... somebody? And they advertised awesome deals that pulled people away from Verizon.
So Verizon is doing a lot of really good deals to get customers back and keep current customers happy.
They’re not advertising it to current customers, but if you call them you’ll find out all the good deals.
Like the fact that right now no matter how old your phone is, if it’s broken (front glass, camera glass, or battery bulging) they’ll take $440 off a brand new phone AND they let you spread the cost of the new phone out over 30 months instead of 24, so in the case everyone in my family, switching out the devices with brand new stuff is costing us 1/3 what it used to a month.
I’m also setting up auto bill pay, which takes another $10 per device off the bill -- something they didn’t have before. By the time I’m done our entire bill will be a little less than half what it was.
Anyway I’m doing all this changing and I’m having to do it over the phone which I hate but it’s saving my family money and getting us great upgrades.
It’s going to take another 2 weeks to finish it because I have to wait on the billing cycle to do the rest, and during that change I was gonna upgrade my mom’s phone and my aunt’s. Right now all our devices are on the side account which is weird and causing me anxiety but needs to be done so the plan can change next cycle.
Everything needed to stay the same until then.
And then Dominic breaks his phone this morning.
Instead of communicating with me what he’s ACTUALLY going to do (he called and told me his phone was broken so I was like okay do insurance and he said okay), Dominic just goes into Verizon and gets a new phone.
He shouldn’t even be able to do that because he’s not a signer on the account.
He put us over our financing limit AND didn’t know about the $440 he could’ve gotten for trading in a broken phone.
Putting us over the financing limit means I’m going to have to pay out of pocket for mom and aunt carol’s phones instead of just starting the monthly plan like I had planned to do.
So I start texting Marissa (Dominic’s mom) and telling her about this and I’m like WHY did he do that when he said he was going to use insurance to replace the broken phone and I told him not to just buy a new phone.
She’s like well he needed a phone! (I didn’t reply with WELL THEN HE SHOULD’VE DONE INSURANCE LIKE I SAID)
Oh and a week ago they told me Meagan had her phone stolen so I suspended it. She’s been in rehab for the last few months so I figured she can just buy a new phone when she gets back under her own account because I’m sick of dealing with her crap.
Then yesterday Marissa told me Meagan has her phone. So okay let’s get it un-suspended.
Today Marissa tells me Meagan actually doesn’t have her phone.
I’m like WTAF!?!!
What actually happened was her backpack was stolen by someone she knows and the phone was in it and she MIGHT get the phone back from them 😕
I don’t even know what to do with this information, but since she doesn’t have it in her hand I re-suspended it. She can fight me if she wants.
This still leaves me with mom and aunt carol having old phones that could’ve been replaced in 2 weeks with no money down and a very low monthly payment but instead Dominic paid WAY too much out of pocket instead of using the insurance and not bothering to pay the full amount or get $440 off on a trade-in.
Oh and he already has the insurance ticket!
If you don’t know, with a family insurance plan you get 3 insurance tickets.
Once a person asks for a ticket, it gets tied to their phone and they can get 3 insurance replacements.
Meagan took one ticket and has used 2 insurance replacements.
Dominic took a ticket, but now he’s not going to use it to replace his phone. But the ticket is already assigned to him and it’s non-transferable. So if two more family members have something happen to their phones, we can only get one fixed and the other one is screwed.
OH and Dominic and his wife want to make their own account and switch his devices to their new account. Which they SHOULD’VE done before buying a phone and if I had known he was going to buy one I would’ve said to do. I could’ve even done it FOR him.
My mom used to deal with all this and I have no idea how she didn’t murder them all. Shit like this happens ALL THE FUCKING TIME.
By the time I was done telling Marissa all this she responded with “I’m sure you’ll figure it all out. You’re awesome.”
Really? That’s your response? THAT’S your response to days of dealing with this and thinking I had it worked out only to have your son decided to do whatever the fuck he wants after TELLING me he would do something else and screwing up the plans for absolutely no reason?!
This was a very long rant.
If anyone made it this far, maybe it makes you feel better about your own family or lack thereof?
